The personality of an individual is often judged by his looks. As the name implies, full mouth reconstruction refers to rebuilding and/or replacing all of the teeth in a patient’s mouth. Full mouth reconstructions combine esthetics with the science of restorative dentistry to improve the health, function, and beauty of the mouth.
Since it’s not just one procedure that is performed, FMR will have different goals based on the procedures that are to be conducted on the patient. Nevertheless, here are some of the common goals they strive to achieve:
- Replace missing teeth.
- Repair diseased or damaged teeth and restore their functionality.
- Create a perfect smile and teeth for the patient.
- Stop oral pain cycles and illnesses.
- Reduce or eliminate bad odor stemming from oral diseases.
- Treat gum disease.
There are quite a variety of different procedures that can make up Smile Makeovers/FMRs. The procedures that get included in FMRs will largely depend on the patient’s needs and will often include one or more of the following:
Teeth Whitening: Helps offset “yellow looking” teeth by using whitening agents such as bleach to brighten an individual’s smile.

Veneers/Lumineers: Worn down teeth can be restored and renewed with veneers or lumineers depending on the level of water teeth have experienced and the based on the needs of the individual involved.
Crowns: Get placed over teeth that had a cavity to protect the empty cavity drilled into the tooth from further infection.
Bridges: Replaces a missing tooth/teeth with a replacement that uses the teeth on either side to hold the bridge in place.
Implants: Replace a tooth when the damage is so bad that the tooth cannot get repaired by traditional means.
