Dental crowns and bridges

Welcome to our blog on dental crowns! Here, we will discuss the benefits of dental crowns and how you can transform your teeth with them.

Dental crowns are a type of dental restoration that restores the tooth to its natural shape. Crowns are custom-fit for each tooth and are made of either porcelain or metal. They are designed to replace a missing tooth or to correct an imbalance in the teeth. Crowns can be either invisible or visible, depending on the type and colour of the resin used.

Why would I need a dental crown?

A dental crown is a necessary repair or restoration that can help you maintain your smile. Crowns are often used to replace missing teeth, correct Bite Problems (malocclusions), protect underlying teeth from decay and trauma if they are weakened, or post a root canal treatment. They are sometimes even given to support dentures.

Crowns are either porcelain or metal and can be custom designed to fit your needs. They’re usually simple to install and require no special skills – just a basic knowledge of oral hygiene and anatomy.

There are various types of dental crowns, each with its benefits and drawbacks. Here are the three most common:

  • Crowns made from porcelain materials (e.g. porcelain veneers) can provide a natural look resistant to environmental damage and long-term wear impressions. These crowns are also relatively easy to maintain and require no special care other than periodic cleaning.
  • Metal Crowns – Metal crowns offer many advantages over traditional tooth fillings, such as durability, resistance to decay and stains, and minimal visibility when worn in public settings. They can take several months or even up to a year for complete healing after being placed on the teeth; however, metal crowns do not always integrate well with certain chewing habits or prosthetic devices.
  • Composite Crown – Composite crowns combine different types of resin into one durable construction that offers many of the same benefits as metal and porcelain crowns while also benefiting from their respective limitations (e.g., composite materials don’t corrode).

There are a few key benefits to having dental crowns installed:

  • Crowns provide long-term protection aesthetic for your tooth against further damage. They act as an external layer of defence against decay and gum disease and can last up to 10 years without needing replacement or repairs.
  • Crowns offer increased comfort due to their snug fit around your mouth – they don’t feel like bulky attachments sitting on top of your teeth}.

By now, you must have understood how crucial it is to maintain a healthy smile. Well-suited dental crowns can ensure that your smile doesn’t change over time.
